Dupuytren’s disease
Dupuytren’s disease or contracture is caused by broad bands of fibrous tissue in the palmar fascia that contract and cause distortion of the fingers. A fasciectomy removes the bands of Dupuytren’s disease which cause the distortion of the fingers.
Hand surgery can be performed under general, local or regional anaesthesia. A regional anaesthesia is an injection of local anaesthetic agent around the nerves which supply the arm.
Following hand surgery we liaise closely with physiotherapists to maximise recovery.
