Prominent ear correction
Prominence of the ears can be corrected by re-shaping the cartilage of the ear and removing excess skin from the fold behind the ear. All surgery is done from behind the ear and the wound is well disguised. Surgery is usually done under general anaesthesia in children but in teenagers and adults it is best done under local anaesthetic. Following surgery you will be asked to wear a firm support bandage around your head which moulds and contours the ears in the early stages. The dressing and sutures are removed after one week following surgery. You will then be asked to wear a bandage for three weeks at night only. This bandage can be replaced with a sports head band which is often more convenient.
