Post operative care

Following a face lift an elasticated facial support is used after surgery. This should be worn at all times apart from hair washing for the first week following surgery and then worn at night for a further three weeks. This should be worn as firmly as possible without causing pain or discomfort.

Prior to discharge from hospital your hair will be washed and you can wash your hair as often as necessary using a mild non medicated shampoo.

Sutures will removed from the visible skin wounds at five to eight days with any remaining sutures and clips being removed at two weeks. There will be swelling with some bruising, most of which will settle in the first seven to ten days with minimal swelling present at three weeks. There is swelling within the tissues which will leave the skin firmer and less wrinkled for up to three months after surgery. Following surgery you will experience numbness in your cheeks which can last for up to three months.
