Facial volume and fat transfers
As part of the ageing process some individuals will notice a loss of volume in the fatty tissues of the face and other parts of the body. This exacerbates lining and wrinkling and can be corrected by transferring fat into the affected area.
The fat is taken from an area of the body where there is excess. The fat is separated from blood and body fluids using a centrifuge and can then be injected in small amounts to areas where there is loss of volume. With multiple small volume injections fat survival is good but there is a 20% loss of fat on average. The amount of loss is not predictable enough to encourage overcorrection.
