Anaesthesia & surgical complications

Local anaesthetic

Local anaesthesia is an injection of anaesthetic agents into the area where the surgery is to be performed and is extremely safe. Very rarely an individual may have an adverse reaction to anaesthetic which can be managed with equipment available in the clinic or operating area.

For some procedures such as dermal filling injections or resurfacing procedures the anaesthetic will be applied as a cream to the surface of the skin approximately 30 minutes before the procedure. For small areas a plastic film can be used to occlude the area which increases the effectiveness of the anaesthetic.
